Laiklie's Own Little Personality

So this morning Laiklie came out of her room having dressed herself and fixed her own hair (yes....it is EXTREMELY STATICY in the picture) and this is the conversation we had:

L: Mom....I got dwessed awll by myself....do you like it? (Sticking her little hip out to one side with hands on hips!)

M: Yes....it is perfect!

L: Does it match?

M: No, but that is okay. Did you think it matched?

L: Ya, becawse dhese pants have pink on dem.

M: Ya, but your shirt is red.

L: But I will just cawll it pink.
FASHION TIP 101: If you need a top to match your pants you just have to "cawll" it the color that you would like it to be!:)

Quick Utah Trip

Friday we grabbed the kids early from school and braved the slick roads and headed to Utah. We dropped the kids off at my sister Jenny's house (Thanks again Jenny) to play with their cousins for the night....which they LOVED! Then Ryan and I headed off to the Jazz game. (No pictures of either....I forgot my camera...bummer)

The next day we decided to meet up with some of our close friends that recently moved to Utah. We met at Cabela's and tried out the giant chair..... (pictures from Ry's phone...sorry, not best quality!) And the lounger....
Then after a quick lunch we headed to a huge dinosaur museum. The kids LOVED all of it. The dinosaurs were HUGE!!

The kids had a great time not only being at the museum, but seeing their friends again!
There was this cool kinda indoor water/sand box for the kids to play in. They put on these handy black aprons to stay dry and then went to building islands for the dinosaurs.
Even the big girls had a great time with this!

The museum also had a fossil brushing site. The kids took off their shoes and dug in. They each took a paint brush and dug through the sand to find fossils and then brushed them off just like the professionals!

SO FUN! Thanks Arfmann family for being some GREAT entertainment!

We then finished the day at IKEA.....OH MY WORD....it was HUGE! If Hollie hadn't been there to show us the way out we may have had to find one of their cozy beds for the night. After marching through their gigantic store the kids were exhausted and 3 of the 4 slept the WHOLE WAY HOME. Rhett announced once we got home that the ride home from Utah wasn't as long as the ride to Utah....that's what happens when we sleep from pure exhaustion! :)

Rhett "PROMISES" he was really awake and wasn't sleeping like this! Ha, ha.....I know a sleepy head when I see one! This was taken one Friday night when the kids *needed* to sleep in their sleeping bags. He won out on yelling "couch" first and loudest so that is where he slept....KINDA!

I love these pictures of Dallin doing his homework. I love that his hat says "Survivor." Little boys and homework - they are survivors when they finish! His mommy also needs a survivor hat for fighting the fight of getting the homework done! Okay...not really, Dallin is a trooper and very rarely fights me on anything other than his pocket t-shirts that he thinks he has to wear EVERYDAY!! Drive me crazy!

BANGS....Hmmmm

So.....I go through phases where I think bangs are OKAY....and then phases where I think NOBODY in their right mind should have bangs. I have kinda been in the 2nd phase lately and so I truly about feel off my rocker the other day when Oakley announced that she wanted bangs. You want WHAT?? REALLY? SERIOUSLY? Where is this coming from? So, I tried not to let the shock of it all change her mind. One thing that my mom ALWAYS let us decide on was how we wanted our hair. It is one of the things you can change a million times and it will always come back. It was something she let us have control over (to a certain extent....pink hair may not have gone over well!). So....I decided along time ago I was going to also allow my girls to decide how they want their hair.
Quick story: When I was 15 years old I went to stay at my Grandma Murdocks and she was always great about spoiling us and so she let me and my cousin Nanette buy some hair dye and use her basement sink to dye our hair. I don't remember the color of Nanette's, but mine was a nice auburn red. I instantly LOVED it. It was a little bright for the first little while and the day after the fun in the basement I had to go home. When I walked in the house my dad saw it and he said, "I guess if you want to look ugly that is up to you!" It didn't hurt my feelings, because if you remember being a teenager you remember that DAD'S don't know as much as a 15 year old does!! (*SIDE NOTE THOUGH....about a week later he actually told me that he really liked the color it had turned into once it faded just a little.) I have always remembered his words everytime I go in for a hair cut or color and wonder if I am going to come out looking ugly?! I think that is part of my fear with bangs. I explained to Oakley that these bangs may not be what she is picturing in her head....and in a way told her if she wanted to look ugly it was up to her!:)

SNIP, SNIP!

Here is my sweet girls before....I say *girls* because....ummm...that is right, the little one saw her sisters NEW BANGS and instantly needed some of her own! Break my heart!!

And this is my precious Laiklie after! It has taken us a day or two to get use to her bangs. Oakley has had bangs before, so we knew what to expect, but Laiklie has never had them, so it was a big change. She is just as cute as ever! Infact, I kind of think it makes her look a little younger which I don't mind! :)

And here is Oakley....they turned out great! She is beautiful no matter what we did to her! She couldn't ever be ugly even if she tried!
So, here is to starting a new year with BANGS! Hopefully girls with bangs have more fun!!

Dare Graduation

Oakley has done the DARE (Drug Awareness) program at school this year and last night was her DARE Graduation. Of course, the sweet school sent a note MONDAY NIGHT that said graduation was TUESDAY NIGHT at 7 PM. I was NOT HAPPY because we had already planned to have mutual AT MY HOUSE at the exact same time. A LITTLE MORE NOTICE WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE. So, it broke my heart that I didn't get to go to my sweet little girls DARE Graduation. It was a good Daddy/Daughter date night though. Ryan stepped-up to the plate and took her. He even took pictures as instructed by me......not so good of pictures, but pictures none the less! Fuzzy Oakley (she must have been speeding past) shaking the DARE Mascots hand. I didn't even know they had a DARE Mascot until she came home yesterday with her Dare shirt and a Lion-type guy on it. Oakley did say, "Mom, we had to shake like a million people's hands!" :) Fuzzy Oakley (once again) shaking the Principal's hand and her teacher Mr. Stones (whom we really like) up next.
What graduation would be complete without a song? This graduation had a "We will Rock You" Song but the words were changed to a "We will DARE You!" Wish I could have heard it to tell you how it went!:) I am sure it was super cute!

We are proud of Oakley for deciding NOW that she won't ever do drugs!!
