6th Grade Track Meet

Rhett got to participate in the 6th grade track meet for our district this year.  He ran the 100 meter race and WON his heat!!! He has the longest legs/stride!! He got to run in the finals and got 4th place! So fun to watch him run! I'm hoping I can convince him to do track in junior high next year.

And We Have a Champ Dancer

Laiklie tried out for the Champ dance team this spring and MADE IT!!! WAHOO!!! This little girl can clog!! Yay! Yay! Yay!

Nationals 2017

It amazes me how fast Dance Nationals comes around each year! Here we are again! It is fun that we do this together as a Hawkins family! The kids get to spend time at the hotel and at Lagoon with their cousins and I am so grateful for the help with my kids from grandma and the aunts while I am being the dance mom.  It works out so well.

Both Oakley and Laiklie danced all their individual stuff on Friday and team dances on Saturday.  Laiklie did great this year.  It is so fun to watch her improve with each year.  She got all first places on her 5 solos, a 1st on her long duet and a 2nd on her short duet.  She received the solo master award PLUS the super star award.  The super star award is given to those with the highest points for the day.  (Points are given with each event and then added together!) Sooo proud of her!!

Oakley did amazing on Friday with her individual events.  We were blown away at how well they scored.  They have scored well this year......but not THIS WELL! We were excited and after the hours and hours and hours of work she has put in lately I was so grateful it paid off!

On Saturday after team dances I ran the costumes out to the car, Ryan ran Laiklie back over to the hotel and I headed to find something for Oakley to eat while she went to ride a few rides waiting for the awards show to start.  At 6:25ish while I was standing in line for my food, I got a call from Kas (our studio director) asking where Oakley was because HER AND BROOKLYN ARE GOING TO DANCE OFF!!!! What?!?!?! Oh my heck!! Kas called Oakley and Brooklyn and Erica and I ran all the way back across the parking lot to the cars to get their costumes. The girls ran and got started on fixing their hair.  They had taken it out thinking there was no way in the world they were going to dance off.  That is what we thought when we took the costumes to the car.  The directors told Kas that somehow we had got missed on the call list and we should have been told by NOON! We were almost glad we weren't so they didn't have all day to worry about it and had great adrenaline to get them through the dance off.  The doors opened at 6:40 and the show started at 7 so we ran like crazy ladies to get them ready and to the show on time.

We knew they were one of THREE chosen to dance an MVP Duet and as we sat and waited they read off the finalists for MVP duet and then MVP Short Duet and number 6 out of 7 was OAKLEY AND BROOKLYN!! We seriously about fell off our chairs.  At this point, Kas, Erica and I were all bawling.  What an exciting thing for our girls to get to dance for not only one, but TWO MVP awards!! A once in a lifetime opportunity!! We couldn't have been more proud!!!

I love this picture of these two hugging after their short duet.  They have worked their guts out trying to be ready for Nationals and this moment of dancing off twice for MVP was definitely the icing on the cake!!! These two have become best friends through these crazy years of dancing.  What a great gift!

After two full days of dancing and an extremely late night at the awards show Oakley and I got up early Sunday morning to drive home (Leaving Ryan and the other kids asleep to drive home later) for Young Women's.  Oakley had been asked by her YW President to speak to the YW on modesty.  She was nervous all week about it, especially knowing the Stake President would be there.  Some of her very best friends don't always make great choices when it comes to modesty and she was worried about hurting feelings too.  She stood up there infront of all the YW and her leaders, the bishop and Stake President and did and INCREDIBLE job! I was as proud of her in that moment as I was the night before as she danced off for MVP! Oakley is amazing and I love being her mom! After YW's was over as we were headed out the Stake President grabbed both of us and pulled us aside and handed us three tickets to the Idaho Falls Temple dedication for IN THE TEMPLE!! He told me he wanted Ryan and I to take Oakley to the temple dedication AT THE TEMPLE!!! Soooooo Cool!!! I can't wait! He was obviously very impressed with Oakley that day and knew it was a hard thing for her to get up infront of her peers to talk to them about such a touchy subject.  Sure love her!

Madison's Prom 2017

Oakley's best friend, Lauren, got asked to prom by her boyfriend that goes to Madison to school and so when he asked Lauren to prom his best friend Ethan asked Oakley to prom too.  We were excited she got to go, because her prom fell on the same night as dance nationals and she wasn't going to be able to go.  She had a fun day date razoring with them and then looked absolutely stunning when they headed off to dinner and the dance.

Oakley and Lauren....we are blessed to have Lauren as a best friend.  What a fun night at prom!

Mommy Daughter Date

Laiklie and I got to go to the Activity Days mommy daughter activity.  We played a get-to-know-you game where we got to ask each other random questions.  Then we helped put together foster care kits and had rootbeer floats.  We took the balloons they used as decorations and each tied a service we were going to do to the end of the balloon and the girls go to let the balloons go.  It was fun to spend the evening together. I sure love this sweet baby girl of mine!

Idaho History

Laiklie had to do her 4th grade Idaho History Project this year.  She choose to do it on the Idaho State Capitol building since we just visited it in February.  It was fun to help her learn about the building and what happens there and get her poster put together.  She did a great job!

Farming

It's that time of year again where if we want to see Ryan we have to GO TO HIM! I love this time of year when we start farming the ground. The dead gets tilled under and the dirt smells fresh and new and soon the green will break through.

I LOVE everything about these pictures.  Both my farmers together! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!

First Kayak Trip of the Year

MAY 3RD

Dallin begged and begged to have Nate over to kayak down the canal.  The water was still low so they could go under the bridges....it wasn't hot by any means, but warm enough so I agreed.  They figured it all out.  They used both 4-wheelers to shuttle the kayaks back and forth from the drop off point to the pick up point.  They were able to float it a couple of times before Nate had to leave.  They had a BLAST! You can tell they were all smiles!

Cousins

Yvonne invited us over one Sunday evening for dinner and FHE and the game afterwards was a giant Jenga.  These 4 were the only ones that stuck around to play and we were blown away at how long the game lasted and the tricky moves they made.  We had to hurry and take a picture before the whole thing toppled over.
And then of course this little lady had to come spend some time with her bestie Oakley.  These two are so cute together. We love having cousins next door!

Easter 2017

I love Easter, and I love the traditions that come with it.  I love coloring eggs and the Easter egg hunt.  I love the kids running plates of goodies to the elderly in our ward, and I love celebrating the resurrection of our Savior.
This year we had Yvonne's girls over to dye eggs with us.  So fun! Kinda messy....but still fun!

Easter morning was fun because we have a new house to hide baskets in.  Last year we were still in the old house for Easter.  The kids had NO IDEA where to even start looking this year and we had to give some pretty good hints in order for them to find them. :)

They all looked great for Easter Sunday.  I sure love these 4! They make my world go round! Now.....if we could get a serious picture with actual smiles without having to take 457 thousand that would be nice! Hahaha!
We did the Easter egg hunt the Monday after Easter this year for FHE. That was different.  It worked out perfect though. With all the rain we had gotten I didn't get the chance to mow the grass so it really was an Easter egg HUNT! I have mowed 2 times now and keep finding eggs in the grass that we missed. Hahaha!
