The Jacobson Kids

My cousin Kyle and his wife Jessica were both going to be out of town a couple weeks ago and so they asked us to keep their girls for them.  We LOVED having them here all week! I LOVED having some little Jacobson's in my house (I will ALWAYS be a Jacobson at heart!).  We were able to do some fun things while they were here.

 We colored Easter Eggs.  I love the way Oakley is looking at her nerdy brother and KayLyn just rolls with it. :)

 We delivered Easter Baskets to some of the elderly in the ward.  Rhett and Haylee were my best deliverers. 

 On the last night we took everyone bowling and for ice cream.  When we got there we found out it was Cosmic Bowling Night! Fun!!

It was a fun week and we would keep those sweet girls again in a second! They were great.  It was a little crazy trying to get all 7 kids & myself (I subbed for Jessica at the school all week that week too) out the door by 8 am, but we made it work and had a good time doing it!

Bonneville vrs Bonneville

Bonneville has an INCREDIBLE volleyball program.  Oakley was so blessed to make this team this club season and they have done so well.  There is another team from Bonneville that is just a year younger than ours and there are SEVERAL times and SEVERAL tournaments that these two Bonneville teams end up playing each other for the #1 and #2 spots. It is fun to have all the fans cheering for both sides! Love these girls and I am so proud of them all for their hard work!

5th Grade Square Dance

Dallin is in 5th grade and with that comes the 5th grade square dance.  Back when school started I remember him telling me that since the teacher who was usually incharge of it moved to a different school this past summer that he was super excited he wasn't going to have to do it.  :) Little did he know that the other 5th grade teacher would take over and make sure it still happened!

He acted all manly and tried to talk like he wasn't excited about it....but he talked about it SO MUCH we knew he was! He loved it...but don't tell him we know that! :) All the pictures we got were a little fuzzy, but he is the boy in blue. 

I absolutely LOVE the square dance! I love the songs that talk about swing your partner and dosy do and bring your gal back on home! SO FUN!! I am so glad he got the opportunity! What a handsome guy and a pretty good little dancer!! (Don't tell him that either!)

Volleyball AGAIN!:)

 Oakley had a big weekend of volleyball.  We had a local tournament this past Saturday.  There were 16 other teams at the competition.  They separate them 4 teams on 4 different nets.  You play pool play...which means you play the 3 other teams on your net then they have all 1st place teams play on one net, 2nd place teams on another, etc.  We beat all 3 teams on our net, then we played 3 new teams and beat all 3 of them as well which put us into the championship game.  We had to play the team that just beat our freshman team. Oakley's team is made up of all 8th graders and one 7th grader so they were a little nervous!

They totally WON!!!

They beat the other team in just 2 games! They played with heart and worked as a team and that goes a long way! It was such a fun day!! Because of this win we have now been invited as a team to attend the West Coast Championship in Las Vegas in May. Yay! So proud of these girls!

State Clogging Competition

We had 2 full days of clogging at the state competition this month.  The first day was all the novice stuff (so Laiklie's group) and the second day was all the champ (Oakley's) stuff.

Here are my two dancers together! You don't even know how much I love these two!!

Oakley is the teacher of Laiklie's class.  It makes it fun! Oakley was more nervous the day this little class performed than the day she did.  She worked hard teaching them their dances and solos and she really wanted them to do well.  WHICH THEY DID!!

This is Laiklie doing her solos.  She did 3 different ones and got 1st places in all 3.  She was so fun to watch.  I love watching those skinny little legs clog!:)

 The two team dances were Splish Splash (above) and I Want to be Your Princess (below).  The splish splash dance not only got a 1st place, but a trophy as well! Their little costume with a big lufa on their head and lace leggings on their legs is just TOO CUTE!! I sewed all 6 of their little towel cover-ups and LOVE the way they turned out and look on stage!

 The princess dance also got a 1st place.  Oakley's little team of 6 girls is headed to Nationals! Yay!! Proud of both my girls!

On the 2nd day was when Oakley performed.  We counted that morning and she had to dance 14 times that day! I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE being able to remember all of that!! She amazes me!  She did 5 solos, a long duet, a short duet, an acapella, and acappella duet, a freestyle, 2 team dances and then she performed her acapella and the acappella duet again in the pro division.  It was a crazy day full of dancing!! She came home with 7 individual 1st places, 3 individual 2nd places, 2 team 1st places and then the two dances they did in pro both got 3rd places.  For every place you get you get points and at the end of your division they add up who had the top number of points.  Oakley was one of the five they called up on stage to get what they call the SUPER STAR award! That is amazing!! They have SO MANY girls in the champ division....for Oakley to be one of the top 5 is incredible! She has worked SO HARD (she even danced two of her 4 taps off two different days right before competition...she clogs hard and dances like she means it!) and deserves it!  

Oakley's team is headed to Nationals as well.  We have one more competition to get through first though!

 One funny story of the day.....my sister Arnica and her daughter Ali drove up to watch Oakley compete on Saturday. They had to leave after Oakley's individual stuff and neither of our girls wanted Ali to leave.  So they kept hiding from their moms.  We finally found them in the same stall in the bathroom.  Their little heads kept popping up over the top to check and see if the moms found them. :) Hilarious....unless you are the lady in the stall next to them! Ha, ha!!

Science Fair 2014

The science fair is NOT, NOT, NOT my favorite!! I hate it even more when the teachers require it! So.....I have learned to not stress about it.  The ribbons aren't the most important part.  The fact that we participate, the kids have an experiment that they loved doing and a good grade for participating is way more important than stress and a 1st place. :) So we keep it nice and simple around here!

The science fair wasn't required for Laiklie this year, but she REALLY wanted to do a project.  When I saw the cup telephone online I decided that was PERFECT for a 1st grader.

 All we needed was cups, string and a friend on the other end! Perfect!

 Rhett has NEVER had the science fair be a requirement, but he has BEGGED every year to do it.  He absolutely loves every part of the science fair....the experiment, the poster, the friend....he loves it all! This year he wanted to do it with Raegan again and she had already decided to do colored roses.  So he just joined in. :) They spent several days working (or playing really) on it!

Volleyball Lovers!

Us three girls at this house seriously LOVE volleyball.  I LOVED playing it in high school and I have LOVED that Oakley loves it as much as I do.  She has a volleyball in her hand ALL THE TIME! If I am not out volleying with her she is pounding it against the house. (Much to her daddies dismay!) Laiklie started volleyball in the form of a minicamp that is once a week for 8 weeks.  She has gone 2 times now and is LOVING it! I didn't get to go watch her yesterday so I was very impressed when she came home and showed me her serving stance....pretty darn good for a 7 year old! and her hitting approach, which looked great too.  So tonight it didn't surprise me that she wanted me to practice with her.  She was having me toss her the ball and she would pass it back and then she decided she wanted to spike the ball.  She had me tossing it up and she would hit it.  I kept tossing it a little low and she would hit it with her elbow and she kept saying, "It's okay mom! It's your first time playing with a little person." Bahahaha! :) I love this little girl! And she was right....It is my first time playing with a little person....Oakley is almost as tall as her momma now! This is going to be fun having 3 girls in the house know how to handle a volleyball!!
